The vault of the central nave
After the Great War, at the end of the 1920s, Giuseppe Cherubini was called to complete the work on the vault of the central nave, restored not long before. He was charged with illustration the stories of St Andrew, the patron saint of fishermen. In the three compartments along the ceiling are represented in succession, 'The Martyrdom of the Saint on the Cross', 'The Glory' and 'The Vocation od St Andrew', works which saw also collaboration from Eugenio and Angelo Brombo from Chioggia.
Cherubini's expressive language developed coherently in the sphere of descriptive painting brought to light by the modernists of the early 20th century, with particular attention to the Liberty style so prevalent in certain areas of Europe.
