The canvas Jesus crucifix appears to Saint Thomas Aquinus, attributed to Jacopo Tintoretto (second half XVI cent.)
The canvas which is a resounding analogue to “The Apparition of the Crucifix to St Peter” by Jacopo Tintoretto in the Church of The Madonna Dell'Orto in Venice, has for a long time led to the supposition that this work too was by the famous Venetian master. More recently however it has been attributed to his son and collaborator, Domenico. The work from 1598 depicts the moment in which St Thomas, in ecstasy hears the words from the crucifix held by angels, “ You have written well of me. Thomas.” WOrds which are written on a scroll above the head of the Saint.
Next to the theologian some saints dear to the Clodiense people are present: Peter and Paul on the left and on the right St Agnes standing facing St Cecilia who is seated and who occupies the centre of the scene. In the right corner is St Catherine with the remains of the martyrs' wheel. The Saint overshadows then with open arms and glancing towards the Saviour. The work is noted for its vivid chromaticism, for its dynamic rhythm of composition and the choice of figurative perspective, all elements resultant from the Robusti workshop.
